Original ink portrait of a woman — Profile on red (271A)

This is an original ink portrait of a woman, drawn entirely by hand in profile against a vivid red ground. A one-of-a-kind contemporary figurative drawing — not a print and not an edition, but the single original work from my studio.

A female profile portrait built line by line

The face, neck and gathered hair are rendered with dense cross-hatching and fine stippling, using a Staedtler pigment liner with archival, fade-resistant pigment ink. There is no shading by tone here: every shadow and every highlight is constructed stroke by stroke, which gives the skin its quiet, sculptural feel.

The figure sits against a hand-painted deep red background. That contrast between the warm, flat red and the cool black-and-white linework is what gives this female profile portrait its tension and makes it read strongly even from across a room.

A signed, one-of-a-kind original

This original ink drawing on red was created in 2020 and is signed and dated by hand on the back (reference 271A). It is a unique piece — once it is sold, it is gone. The work ships carefully protected and ready to frame, directly from the artist, with no gallery in between.
