What are the major themes you pursue in your work?
I like to portray people and study their expressions. I like aerial views of big cities and city skylines without the presence of people. From that vantage point, the cities appears silent and full of mystery. Lately I’ve been captured by classical marble statues. They are ageless, immortal beauties. Everybody is fascinated by them, and their beauty deserves to be forever preserved by the most resistant material. I paint these statues and I try in my own way to make some of their beauty to stay.
Sometimes this beauty turns out to be more attractive if there is some flaw: a missing nose or a chip on the surface.
How did you first get interested in your medium, and what draws you to it specifically?

Italian artist Dario Moschetta paints interesting portraits with a blurred, glitchy aesthetic. “When l’m painting portraits or cityscapes or working to some mixed media artworks I don’t have complex thoughts, I just think about giving the right color, the right shadow and the right light to the artwork. I often stop and take a few steps back to look at what l’ve done, and I look at it very differently compared with the way I observe it as I’m working on it.”

What’s integral to the work of an artist?
Today, the most important thing, in my opinion, for an artist is to search for new ways to make art, to evolve what artists have long used as a medium, to go beyond the use of colors in tube and brushes. In the past, few have done this, but now thanks to new technologies, the search for new materials and visual systems may be within everyone’s reach if they want to make something artistic that will stand the test of time.
What role does the artist have in society?
The artist looks at the world in a very personal way, with a different sensitivity. The artist sells, otherwise he could not make a living, but in a way he gives everyone something beautiful, or at the very least, original.

Can you talk about your artistic influences and other artists you are most inspired by?
I studied various artistic masters for a long time, starting with Leonardo (da Vinci) and Michelangelo, through to Rembrandt, Vermeer, Canova, and up to the modern art of the twentieth century. The artists that have influenced me most in the last decade are Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Marc Quinn, Damien Hirst, Andrew Salgado and Hanjo Smith. Do you prefer to work alone or collaborate with others?I’ve always worked alone. The artist’s workspace is lonely and very intimate. There are only a person or two that know exactly my working methods, because they know difficulties and joys that are involved in doing this job.
